2. Privacy Policy
This policy explains how jobfishing ("we", "us") collects, uses, and protects personal data when you use jobfish.ing and the jobfishing application (app.jobfish.ing), in accordance with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP).
At a glance. We use your CV and profile to score jobs for you, and for nothing else. Your data is stored on servers in the European Union. The AI providers that score your CV process it under zero data retention: they do not keep it after answering, and they do not train on it. We do not sell data, show ads, or set tracking cookies. You can download or delete everything from the app's settings at any time.
2.1 Who is responsible for your data
The data controller is Qingyu Jiang, trading as jobfishing, 14 Cour du Couvent, L-1362 Luxembourg, Luxembourg — hello@jobfish.ing.
2.2 What we collect
- Account data: your email address and login credentials (your password is stored only as a one-way hash). If you sign in with Google, Google shares your name and email address with us.
- CV / resume data: the content you upload to build your profile — for example name, contact details, education, work history, language skills, and any other information your CV contains. Depending on the format of your CV, this can include details such as date of birth, nationality, or a photo. Please avoid including data you consider highly sensitive (e.g. health information, religious or political affiliation) unless strictly necessary — we do not ask for or intentionally process such categories of data.
- Usage data: your interactions with the app, such as saved searches, applications tracked, and matching results.
- Referral data: if you share a referral link, we link your referral code to the account that signed up through it, so we can see where sign-ups come from.
- Technical / connection data: our content-delivery provider (Cloudflare) processes standard technical data such as IP address for network security and operation purposes. We do not use this data for tracking. To understand which sources visitors reach the site from, the marketing website uses Plausible Analytics, a privacy-friendly, cookieless service that records page views and referrer in aggregate, without cookies, persistent identifiers or personal profiles.
2.3 Why we process your data, and on what legal basis
- Performance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR): to create your account, match your CV against job postings, and provide the service you signed up for.
- Legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR): to keep the service secure, prevent abuse, and maintain the technical infrastructure (including the connection data described above).
- Consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR): where we ask for it separately, e.g. for optional communications.
When you sign up, we record the date and the version of these terms and this policy that you accepted.
2.4 AI-based matching
To read your CV and score it against job postings, we send relevant CV content and job description text to large language model (AI) providers, which act as data processors on our behalf. We use only providers that process this data under zero data retention: they do not store your data after returning a response, and they do not use it to train their models. Some of these providers process data outside the European Economic Area and Switzerland; such transfers are made only to countries with an adequacy decision or under the EU Standard Contractual Clauses (with the Swiss addendum). The current list of AI providers is available on request at hello@jobfish.ing.
Match scores are produced automatically, but they only sort and explain job postings for you; no decision with legal or similarly significant effect is made about you, and we never send your data to employers. You may object to this processing at any time (see Section 2.8); note that AI-based matching is a core part of how the service works, so objecting may limit your ability to use it.
2.5 Where your data is stored
Application data (accounts, profiles, CVs and uploaded files) is stored on servers rented from OVHcloud in the European Union, which acts as our hosting processor. Backups are kept on OVHcloud infrastructure as well. To test changes before they are released, a copy of the database (without uploaded files) is also used on a development system under our direct control; it is replaced with a fresh copy every day. We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect this data against unauthorised access, loss, or misuse, including encrypted connections (HTTPS) and restricted administrative access.
2.6 Who we share data with
- OVHcloud (France) — hosting of the application, its database and backups (see 2.5).
- AI model providers — CV and job description content, for reading CVs and matching/scoring, under zero data retention (see 2.4).
- Resend — your email address and the content of account emails (verification codes, password resets, notifications you switch on), to deliver them.
- Cloudflare — technical connection data only, for content delivery and network security.
- Plausible Analytics (EU) — aggregate, cookieless page-view statistics for the marketing website only (see 2.2).
- Google — only if you choose to sign in with Google, to authenticate you.
We do not use a payment processor, because we do not take payments. We do not sell your personal data.
2.7 How long we keep your data
We keep your account and CV data for as long as you have an account. When you delete your account — via the account deletion option in the app's settings, or by emailing hello@jobfish.ing — we delete your account, profile, CV files and the matching data linked to them immediately. Copies in our backups and on our development system are overwritten as the backups rotate, and are not restored except to recover from a failure. Usage records kept for cost accounting are retained without any link to you.
2.8 Your rights
Under the GDPR, you have the right to access, correct, delete, or export your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise any of these rights, use the in-app account tools where available, or contact us at hello@jobfish.ing. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Luxembourg National Commission for Data Protection (CNPD), cnpd.public.lu, or with the data protection authority in your own country of residence. If you live in Switzerland, you may also contact the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC), edoeb.admin.ch.
2.9 Cookies
The jobfish.ing marketing website does not set any cookies. Its cookieless Plausible Analytics (see 2.2) needs no cookie consent. The application may use a strictly necessary session cookie to keep you logged in, which does not require consent under GDPR since it is essential to providing the service you requested.
2.10 Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Every change updates the "Last updated" date at the top of this page, which is also the version recorded when you sign up. For material changes we will tell account holders by email or in the app before they take effect.
3. Terms of Service
These Terms govern your use of jobfishing (jobfish.ing and app.jobfish.ing). By creating an account, you agree to them. This page's "Last updated" date is the version you accept.
3.1 The service
jobfishing aggregates job postings from third-party job boards and other publicly available sources, scores them against your profile using AI-based matching, and helps you track your applications.
3.2 Job data is not guaranteed
Job postings are sourced from third parties. We do not guarantee that our listings are complete, accurate, or up to date — the original posting from the employer or job board is always authoritative. We do not guarantee that using jobfishing will result in interviews or job offers.
3.3 AI-generated matching
Match scores and explanations are generated automatically using AI and may be incomplete or incorrect. They do not constitute professional career, legal, or immigration advice, and should not be relied on as your sole basis for any decision.
3.4 Accounts
You must provide accurate information when creating an account and are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure.
3.5 Price
jobfishing is free to use. There is no paid plan and no subscription: we do not ask for a payment card, we do not collect payment details, and we never charge you for the service. The open-source agent tools are free as well, under the MIT licence — though your own AI provider may bill you for the work your agent does, which is between you and that provider.
If we ever introduce a paid feature, it will be optional, and we will publish its price and terms — including refund and withdrawal rights — before anyone can pay for anything. Nothing you use today turns into a charge without you choosing it first.
3.6 Closing your account
You can delete your account at any time via the account deletion option in the app, or by emailing hello@jobfish.ing. Since there is nothing to pay, there is no subscription to cancel first.
3.7 Disclaimer of warranties
The service is provided "as is" and "as available". We do not warrant that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that job data will be complete or accurate.
3.8 Limitation of liability
To the extent permitted by Luxembourg law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses arising from your use of the service, including missed job opportunities.
3.9 Termination
We may suspend or terminate accounts that misuse the service, violate these Terms, or engage in fraudulent or abusive behaviour.
3.10 Referral program
While jobfishing is free there is nothing for a referral to earn credit against, so no credits are issued, held, or redeemable, and referral links carry no monetary value. If we introduce a paid feature and a reward program with it, we will publish that program's terms before it starts. We may withhold rewards under any future program, and suspend accounts, for fraudulent or bad-faith activity such as self-referrals or fake accounts.
3.11 Changes
We may update the service or these Terms from time to time. We will tell account holders about material changes by email or in the app before they take effect; continuing to use the service after that date constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms. If you do not agree, you can delete your account at any time.
3.12 Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Luxembourg, without regard to its conflict-of-law provisions. Any dispute shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Luxembourg, without prejudice to any mandatory consumer-protection rights you may have in your country of residence.
4. Payments & Refunds
jobfishing is free. We take no payments, so there is nothing to refund and no subscription to cancel.
4.1 We do not charge you
- Using the app costs nothing. There is no paid plan, no trial that converts into a charge, and no payment card on file.
- We do not operate a payment processor and hold no card details — so no charge from us can appear on your statement. If you ever see a charge claiming to be from jobfishing, it did not come from us: report it to your bank and tell us at hello@jobfish.ing.
- Costs your own AI provider bills you for, when you run the open-source agent tools, are charged by that provider under its own terms. We cannot see or refund them.
4.2 Leaving
- Nothing has to be cancelled. Stop using the service whenever you like, or delete your account from the app's account settings or by emailing hello@jobfish.ing — we then delete your account and personal data (see Section 2.7).
4.3 If this ever changes
- Should we introduce a paid feature, we will publish its refund terms here before the first charge, and EU consumers will keep the statutory 14-day right of withdrawal on a first payment.
